249 had a delivery to make with the usual order from 99 to 'Keep an eye out for blast cores' and 'Do not open the package.' But the thing was, 249 ALWAYS opened the packages. There was always something cool inside, never anything mundane enough to be able to take, but stuff that made you either fear for humanity or question your current job choice. Not like he had a choice in jobs, that is.

The Vermaak courier made his way over top the water, freezing a path behind and below him as he made his way through the fllooded and decimated town. He had to get to New Marais proper and back to Flood town in the same amount of time it takes a pizza to get to your door. Not much room for stopping. A faint glow from a nearby house caught his eye, however and he decided to take a peak. Who knows, maybe for once it IS a blast core or even a blast shard to make his boss give him a break for a day. He approached the flooded building, walking up to the second story window, his ice trail breaking off into small icebergs as the heat did away with it. Peering inside he could see a television was playing some weird show where some man with a guitar tried to woo a woman, but she proceeded to stab him with what looked like a shard of glass as he just kinda let it happen. The show obviously had some casting budget cuts. The girl seemed pretty good at portraying her role, however.

Before continuing on his way, he decided now was the perfect time for a peak into his magical box of wonder. A simple lift of too buckles and the cooler-like package was exposed to fresh air. Inside was the usual, guns and money. It seemed there were a lot of guns and money being moved around lately. At least the ice skating was always exciting enough to break the monotony.

30 Minutes or Less Empty Re: 30 Minutes or Less

She'd gotten there by boat so far. After getting some word from locals at a bar and gulping down a cocktail--apparently the presence of conduits and gangs doesn't warrant for checking an ID anymore, not that her beverage had been her first alcoholic drink--She was absolutely certain. The marina was in the place they call the "Gas Works." If she was going to find Kristopher, she was going to find him there. The locals had warned her about people called the Vermaak 88, saying that they were dangerous. While the description of who they were had gone completely over her head in her only half paying attention, buzzed state, the name stuck with her. She thought about it as she came to the edge of the water of Belvue that had given floodtown its name and spotted an old, abandoned dingy nearby. She used her own hands to drag it toward the water, pushing with much exertion that her small muscles could muster. When her task was finally done, by some miracle, she was able to get the dingy into the water and start it up with taking on a little water.

Well, a little water became a lot of water. She'd gotten far out enough and close enough to a house that she quickly leapt onto its first story roof before the liquid could damage the velvet of her heels.

Now she was stuck.

"Ah-ahh..." She nervously stammered, pulling at the bottom of her white dress shirt as she peered over the edge of the roof and into the dark water below to the next house over. This was the only way to get to the Gas Works? She turned her head back to the boat, now basically a piece of large debris in the ocean that had consumed the homes of Belvue. She turned back toward the nearest house to her and swallowed. It's not that she was afraid of water, she was more afraid of the potential for the things in it. Were there sharks in there?

Nevermind sharks, there was no way her poor heels would survive the trauma... not to mention, she wasn't exactly a great swimmer. The distance between the houses would eventually tire her out, and the salt of it all would dehydrate her and she could eventually wind up dying on one of these roofs, sunbaked like a potato chip for the crying gulls above and--

Get ahold of yourself

She scowled at her thoughts. Then, she took a very deep breath, exhaling slowly. Okay... The boat is gone. The option of swimming is... a very, very last resort. So... what did that leave her? As she searched the area around her, a memory tugged at her mind, a fresh one.

The blood dripping down her hand, her shadow looking ever sinister.

Her shadow,

she looked down at it, ever present with the hot sun beating down against her. She didn't like what happened back at that rest stop, but maybe, just maybe... something could be used here?

"Well..." She sighed, "Better than dying on a roof in the middle of New-fucking-Marais..."

If something was going to happen to help her, then it was gonna be a long shot.  She was out of options. She took a few steps back. Then another few steps back. Her gulp of nervousness was audible from her own throat. Her steps pitter pattered back and forth on the roof tiles in preparation. Then she began her running start to the end of the roof.

"Come on, Seina, Come on, Seina, Come on, Seina!" Seina chanted this to herself, each subsequent chant getting louder. Her ankle boot kicked off the edge of the roof, her hand outstretched to the opposite roof suddenly burst before her own eyes, disintegrating. Her body became a whirlwind of dark shadows, a spiral of black against a blue sky, then landed, on her feet with her hand down to catch herself on the next roof over. Her heart stopped in her chest for a moment.

"Phew. . . !!!" She stands up, relieved. Seina raises her pale hands up, looking at them curiously. That had been... exhilarating.  No, not just that, it was... fun! She looks up, her blue eyes much brighter than before as she grinned to herself, running to the edge of the roof once more. Her body imploded again into a spiral, small speckles of shadow surrounding it that shimmered and sparkled, until she landed on the next roof. She couldn't help but giggle to herself.

She stumbled this time, rolling onto her back, but she was able to smoothly and easily pick herself up and gain momentum, now bursting into shadow and onto the next roof every time with ease. She found every time she came out of shadow, no matter what, even if she were completely upside down when reforming, she'd always land on her feet. Like a cat, almost. Even if she landed on her side, it was with a roll that allowed her to maintain her momentum and get right back into it. She felt like she was having the most fun since Kris had left her for the Marines.

A dozen rooftops later, She had to stop, hands on her knees, chuckling. Then she straightened up, scowling at herself. Right, it was time to get serious....

. . .

She bit her lip, letting out a high pitched giggle as she looked at the next rooftop. Just a little more wouldn't hurt. It wasn't like she wasn't making progress anyway, she was getting there... gradually. Might as well really play it up then, if playing was what she was doing.

This time, as she ran and leapt, she did it sideways, spinning through the air over the water for the moment like a ballerina might do in mid-air while on stage. Her hand burst first, then the rest of her body over the rather long distance to the next house across the street. Seina reformed and completed her spin onto the roof, grinning just to herself as she wrapped her arms up into the air, her toe pointed outward. She pretended she'd just given a show to a live audience, taking a deep bow, laughing at herself again, as the pretend crowd in her mind gave her a standing ovation.

Thank god no one was watching, honestly, it would probably be really embarrassing. Well, who cares? She was just having fun with her new abilities. What's the harm in that?

30 Minutes or Less Empty Re: 30 Minutes or Less

249 examined the contents of his box closer, leaning his back on the wall and slipping down onto a small stool of ice that shot out of the ground below him. Normally uncomfortable but the number of layers his suit had made anything uncomfortable anyways so it mattered not. He tossed the lid to his side and moved some of the bricks of bills out of the way to reveal the real treasure at the bottom of the box. There was always something there that 99 had hidden because he knew most couriers would take a peak at their packages. Today's surprise was a small map with a location in the swamp marked off with a small island in the middle of the mark. Something must have been there. He put one of his legs on the other knee and reclined back as he looked at the other ticks on the map, non as heavily marked as the swamp location.

But the corner of his eye caught some movement. An absence of light passed over him and landed almost right in front of him. A girl popped into the world, facing away from him out of this cloud of smoky blackness that blocked all light from passing through it. He moved as slowly as he could to fold the map back up but putting everything back in it's place would make a noise.

With the map folded, 249 did the next best thing when confronted with a conduit alone. Threaten her. Maybe she didn't know he wasn't even a full conduit? "FREEZE!" He yelled, his voice distorted by his mask, having to go through a speaker as to not be muffled gibberish. he raised a hand and had several small ice crystals circle it, ready to launch at a moments notice. "What did you see?" he asked. Just in case. He didn't need to kill anyone today if he didn't have to. The family watching the tv behind him were on the short list of 'Probably have to kill' that now contained this conduit girl as well. Nobody on the actual kill list, which was nice.

She was mid-bow when she heard a slightly muffled voice thick with an accent she'd never heard before yell at her. She froze, as requested though not intentionally, then jerked herself up. She pivoted on her heel, turning toward the sound of the accented voice, her face flushed with the exertion of trying her new powers. She hadn't expected them to wear her down, but then, it's to be expected when they were so new to her. Her bright blue eyes encountered the strangely dressed man before her, her dark hair being pushed into and around her face in New Marai's tropical wind. She moved her hand up and pushed her hair out of her face so she could see him better.

All white from head to toe with blue undertones in his thick clothing, his boots and straps black. That helmet... how did he even see out of it? She cocked her head to the side, and blinked, regarding him first in curiosity. Then, as he raised his hand and commanded an answer from her with ice forming on it, with surprise. She raises her own hands up, flustered. She began taking a few steps back.

"Whoa-wait, I--!"

Seina misinterpreted both how close he was, and how far back the edge of the roof was. One second she was backing away, somewhat fearful for her own safety, the next, the high heel of her ankle boots had caught over the end of the roof tiles and her body was falling backwards, her wide eyes full of surprise. As her body fell back, her other foot kicked up high, her long legs hooking on the package the conduit held in his free hand that had been loosely tossed back together and out of his grasp. She felt the kick and, seeing the parcel fly into the air over towards her, impulsively reached out to grab it. Just before her back hit the water, her body exploded once more into a spiral of black, this time, only going up and over the man in white to appear on the peak of the second story window he'd been looking into.

She blinked, surprised at her own instincts, then opened the only half closed box she'd accidentally taken from the man in white to peer inside. A piece of trash with rubbish markings on it sitting over a bed of... guns and money?! She'd run out of money a while back and guns... those would be useful...! With a gasp, she quickly tosses away the piece of paper atop the money and guns before she closes the parcel, then looks down at the man in white.

She stared at him for a moment, then scowled, half crouching to yell back at him in the same manner he'd addressed her in.

"NOTHING!"

She couldn't help but smirk as she quickly turned, dashing away and bursting into darkness to appear on the next roof over. She'd been making fun of him. Now though, seriously, she probably needed to run her ass off. No way she was gonna let this money slip from her hands.

"NOTHING!"

Nothing looked a lot like something. This girl was either an idiot or a genius, but given how she fell off of the rooftop, 249 assumed the former. He would be more assertive had she not showed a control over her powers even when she was thrown off. It honestly scared him a little. What scared him more, however, was his superior finding out he had lost the package and his fears were deepened as he watched the map start making it's way to the roof and catching a wind and landing right into the water, sinking into the brown depths. He dove to the edge of the roof, reaching for it but his hand hit the water and froze it solid, just hurting his fingers. He pushed up off the roof and, still prone, turned to look at the girl. Was... Was she grinning? She had successfully been promoted from probable kill to certain kill.

"Ya think this is a fucking game?" He said, his accent thicker than before in his anger. He grabbed his shotgun and made a pillar of ice rapidly below him, launching him up and over the girl and landing a few feet away at the opposite side of the second story roof that she was on and made some ice footholds to keep his balance. "It's a certain shame you had to be born this way, innit?" He said in a serious tone. He extended one arm holding his shotgun and pulled the trigger.

Seina turned towards the man in white, her back straightening at his suddenly more prominent accent. She'd been so amazed by his abilities that she'd forgotten for a moment that she would be in danger by staying still. She stared at him, barely registering his words or the reason for his sudden change in attitude when he pulled out his shotgun.

"Eek!" She instinctively raised the package up to guard her face, her body bursting into shadow just on impact of the bullets, her physical hand grabbing one of the rolls of money before they tumbled to the ground below and fading into shadows too. The darkness leapt forth toward and through the ice conduit, the darkness unintentionally seeping through and kissing his skin beneath his armor before reforming just on the other side of him... but there was no more of the second story roof there. She reformed on a non-flat surface and fell onto her butt as she did, nearly into the water and effectively hitting her funny bone in the fall.

"AH--Owwwww.... nngh," She winced, holding her elbow against her body, her eyes tight in the insignificant pain that shot hollowly through her arm. Then she noticed the roll of money in her hand and how the other rolls of money she'd left behind, and the guns that were shot out of the package, were slipping into the water where apparently he couldn't reach. She swallowed.

Time to go!

She stood up, ignoring the ebbing pain in her arm and ran the short distance she could, her darkness carrying over the water to the next roof over. There was no way she could take that guy on--he had ICE powers... AND A GUN. What did she have, a manufactured dagger in her pocket? She hissed to herself, Way to bring a knife to a gunfight!

The feeling of shadows... The FEELING of a shadow crept over his body and felt like fingers lightly brushing the hairs on his arms.  He somehow got even colder as he felt a chill run up his spine. The tickle left his body and he heard a wince of pain behind him. He quickly turned around to see the girl on a new rooftop nursing her elbow. He figured she had an advantage on him so he did what he could to catch up and ran off the edge of the roof, freezing the water below him and sliding along the bridge of ice he was forming between the rooftops.

He got to the edge of her roof and popped up on a pillar of ice and pointed at the girl. "Missy I don't think you understand what you've just brought upon yourself." The soldier said. He popped the shells out of his gun and began loading more, yet remained ready to launch once more. He had almost forgotten how outclassed he was given he somehow had the upper hand in this fight. He hadn't even needed to call in backup yet. "The Vermaak send their regards."

249 tossed a fragile ball of ice at the girl letting it shatter a few feet from her. Not the desired effect of exploding violently, but he was still working on it.At least it made a distraction. All he had to do was  wait for her to look away so he could move in. He formed another ball of ice shards in his hand and tossed it in the air a few times like a baseball. He put his chin up slightly, his invisible face smirking with confident delight.

Vermaak. . . ?! So these were the guys the locals were trying to tell her about back in the bar. Seina yelped, pulling her legs back as the ice ball landed and shattered not too far from her legs. She scowled, picking herself up. He was trying to intimidate her, but she needed to pull herself together. She felt the tanto in her tan jacket that hung around her shoulders and stood up, slashing as she ran the opposite direction from him, taking the weapon out as she ran.

"Get fucked, dude!"

She was already turning into darkness, her heels hitting the shingles of the next roof over.

Seeing her run, hearing her insult him, throwing out the map that he wasn't even supposed to know about and taking money was about all 249 could take. He lept off the ice tower, landing in the classic superhero pose, ice forming on the rooftop in a circle around him. "How about fuck you lady? Every consider that?"

He launched into the air, leaving a small icy pylon below him and landing on the next roof, keeping the pace. He threw the ice chunk at the girl, hitting her in the neck, making the ice shatter and fall down the back of her shirt and leaving a red mark on her upper back. The girl fell on impact, her face hitting the shingles of the roof. He raised his shotgun up and readied to shoot once more.

With a loud, frustrated growl, Seina flipped over with small tears in her eyes. That had stung pretty badly and the fact it was ice that hit her made it all the worse. Her pale forehead was now bleeding a bit, a drop of blood trailing from the scrape down the side of her nose and to her lips, which she spit away. She looked at the barrel of the shotgun pointed at her, her frustration mounting.

This really wasn't her day.

She did the only thing she could think of doing and hurled her tanto at him as hard as she could. The shock on her face was apparent when instead of leaving her hand entirely, her outstretched palm wielded it something like a whip, slashing a hole in his suit across his arm. She cried out, mostly scared of herself as she scrambled back on her hands, the tanto returning to it as well. Her chest heaved while she stared at the blade in her hand, a bit of blood on the tip.

He felt the steal tear through his suit and kiss his arm, the cold racing out of the tear. He dropped his shotgun and immediately did what he could to seal this tear in his, thankfully, non-dominant arm. He froze the area from his elbow to his forearm solid, and even a little above it. It was now functionally useless but he wasn't about to pass out from heat stroke any time soon. His rage diluted and a slight fear overcame him.

But 249 was no coward. He rushed for the girl, forming an ice shield around his good arm and charging toward her with no intent on stopping, screaming the hole way. He didn't know the plan after ramming her but he wasn't very concerned with the future, more of the immediate present. He was certainly low on juice, but had enough to do more than reach her.

Seina had been so absorbed with the frightening aspects of what was going on with her, things she didn't entirely understand at all, that by the time she looked up and came back to reality it was too late to move from his attack. She was bowled over by the ice shield, her body knocked over and into the water a good few feet out, the man stopping just short of the edge, tossing the shield aside.

The wind had been knocked out of her, She stared up at the surface of the water for a good second, the sunlight filtering through. Somehow she'd had the sense to wrap shadows around her shoes of all things. Of course. Because that had been her first impulse. Then she coughed, her first instinct to suck air into her lungs turning against her.

Her head emerged from the surface, coughing up the water she'd inhaled, then, in fear of sharks--no, MUTANT sharks--she grabbed the edge of the roof he'd knocked her off of. Her whole body trembled as she rested against the roof, coughing, her chest heaving and blood dripping from her forehead. Her black hair was plastered against her pale skin from the water her clothes dripping wet as the water trailing from her slipped back into the flooded city. At least her shoes were dry. Why was she feeling so weak? She'd been able to perform for sports before but this was a different kind of tiredness. Seina could even hear her heartbeat. There was no way she was going to be able to keep this up.

"I'm not... gonna die... on a roof in New-fucking-Marais...." Her trembling fingers reached into her pocket and pulled out the soaked roll of money, her palm pushing it toward the ice conduit. "Just... take it... Mister....'mm sorry..." Seina coughed again.

249 raised his non-frozen arm at the girl, the water behind her passing around her freezing into flurries of snow and wrapping around his arm  and up to his shoulder in what looked like a miniature blizzard. He stopped panting and gave his good arm a good shake. He walked up to the girl, kneeled down, getting right in her face. "You have no fucking idea what you're doing, do you? Christ just look at you." As Seina stared back at where his face should be, trembling like a leaf, he grabbed the money and put it into one of the pockets in his suit.

He only had so long until he'd need to get back to a warehouse and the closest one was where he came from and there was no way he wanted to be seen back their anytime soon. He knelt down once more and grabbed the lower half of her face, pushing her lips out like a fish, earning from the dark haired girl a pained whimper as her bright, icy blue eyes stared where his should be. "You're not dying here, don't worry. I wouldn't want you to die without a fight. Contrary to what me ma used to tell me, I do enjoy playing with my food." The vermaak soldier let out a chaotic laugh, slipping out of his sanity for a moment, his menacing shadow loomed over her body.

It was at this moment that Seina's vision started to go. The exhaustion was starting to wear on her--no, it was wearing on her completely. Her eyes faded out as they stared up at the Vermaak 88 soldier before they closed, her whole body slumping into darkness--figuratively--as she passed out on the roof.
